Chat with Agents
This guide covers how to use the chat interface effectively and get the most out of your conversations with agents.
Starting a conversation
Section titled “Starting a conversation”Select an agent from the sidebar and type your message. Each conversation is linked to the agent you choose. If you want to switch agents, start a new conversation.
Understanding tool usage
Section titled “Understanding tool usage”When an agent uses a tool, you’ll see it happen in real-time:
- The tool name and what it’s doing appear in the chat
- Results are shown inline
- The agent continues its response using the tool results
You don’t need to do anything during tool usage. Just wait for the agent to finish. However, some tools may need your input.
Interactive moments
Section titled “Interactive moments”Human-in-the-loop
Section titled “Human-in-the-loop”Sometimes the agent encounters something it can’t handle alone (like a CAPTCHA or two-factor auth on a website). When this happens, it pauses and gives you a link to a browser debugger session. You can take over, handle the interaction, and then let the agent continue.
Questions
Section titled “Questions”An agent might ask you a question with specific options. Click the option you want, and the agent proceeds based on your choice.
Working with spaces
Section titled “Working with spaces”If you’re working on a project, start your conversations within a space. The agent automatically gets context from previous conversations in that space, so you don’t need to re-explain the background every time.
Tips for better results
Section titled “Tips for better results”- Be specific: instead of “research this topic”, say what you want to know and how you want the results formatted
- Break down complex requests: if a task has multiple parts, either list them clearly or let the agent delegate sub-tasks
- Use the right agent: the System Assistant is good for general tasks, but the Researcher is better for web research and the Developer is better for coding
- Provide context: if the agent needs to know something specific, say it upfront rather than expecting it to guess
- Check tool results: the agent shows you what tools it’s using and what results it gets, which helps you verify the information
Managing your conversations
Section titled “Managing your conversations”- Conversations are listed in the sidebar, most recent first
- Archive conversations you’re done with to keep the sidebar clean
- You can always unarchive a conversation later if you need it
